Natural Collection LashCare Mascara - Clear

I was in Boots browsing the make up displays when I happened across the Natural Collection range, I was just nosing at the mascaras when I saw the LashCare mascara.

This retails at £1.99 and states that it will protect your lashes from the drying effects of mascara and harsh makeup removers, to me that is always a good thing.

I use this on my eyelashes before I add my mascara, so once I have curled my lashes I then add this just to keep the curl while my eyeshadow primer is drying.

I was quite surprised how well this actually works, it keeps my curl and it does keep my lashes from drying out and for £1.99 that is fantastic.

This has become a staple of my make-up bag and will forever stay there (until Natural Collection discontinue it)

Catherine Wheel - Models Own

This is another edition from the Models Own Fireworks range, in the picture I have this over the top of Smoke and Ashes from China Glaze.

I matched these two together for the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (I was originally going to use Electrify by China Glaze but couldn't get a hold of it)

This is a lovely glitter polish, this glitter comes out in strands and specs of red and yellow, I was surprised with how much actually came out onto the nail, I only had to go back over 1 or 2 again to get a good covering of glitter.

This is a polish that you will be seeing again come November or The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

L'Oreal Eau De Teint Foundation - Porcelain

This was recommended to me by Cornelia over at Ineffable Beauty,

It is a very odd foundation, it's very watery but it is also very lightweight on the skin.

I will admit that it does take some getting used to, the foundation goes on very sheer (it seems like it does to me), and I sometimes feel that it hasn't covered my face.

It also contains my favourite thing in a foundation, an SPF (which is 15), I love the bottle (which is glass), but the only downside is you only get 20mls of product (when the norm for size is 30mls) especially for a £9.99 price tag.

On the packaging it directs you to apply the foundation on with your fingers, because of the consistency of the foundation this can become quite messy and your bathroom could end up covered in spots of foundation.

It did take a while for me to get into the foundation, but it has become one of my favourites, it goes on easily (barring the messy bathroom), and it really looks like you have nothing on, but giving good coverage. I can also put aside the size and the price tag as it is one of my favourite foundations at the moment.

Cornelia I salute you for this brilliant find!!

Soap & Glory™ Super-Colour Fabulipstick™ Collagen Boosting Lipstick

This I first noticed thanks to Fleur De Force, (she was wearing it in a favourites video), and I love a nude lip especially when doing a natural look for work.

I wore this and it is a lovely nude colour, but I did notice that it doesn't stay on your lips that long, I found myself re-applying after an 1 1/2 hours which was a massive pain in the behind (so make sure you have a lip primer/ lock on hand).

Don't get me wrong I love the colour, and the lipstick feels fantastic on the lips so having to reapply every so often isn't the end of the world, especially when there are lipstick locks out there.

The colour is fantastic, it is a nude lip colour so it just gives a hint of colour to the lips, a fantastic colour for when you are wanting a natural look. I love the indentation of the Soap & Glory logo in the actual lipstick (It's a nice decorative touch).

Overall one of my favourite lipsticks in my collection.

The Body Shop Haul

DISCLAIMER: I am not bragging, just showing items that may be reviewed on the blog in the future. This is also just first impressions on the products not reviews.

I'm not a big fan of putting up haul posts as to me it seems like bragging (which I hate), but this one was just too good to miss. If you have The Body Shop app on your phone you may receive a message telling you that if you spend £50 in store or online, you get £25 off, I did so that was incentive enough for me (I think they are doing this online as well not just through the app, I am unsure about that though).

I bought:

Satsuma Shower Gel
This takes me back to my childhood, this is one of those Body Shop smells that I remember from being a kid (if they every stop selling this shower gel the world may just end)

Seaweed Mattifying Lotion
This is a new product I have never tried so this should be fun, I normally use Garnier's moisture match lotion but I am itching for a change so thought this was a good idea.

Honeymania Body Butter
I bought a small pot of this a couple of weeks ago and was waiting till the end of the month to purchase a bigger tub but with the offer I couldn't say no.

Chocomania Body Scrub
I had a small tub of this at Christmas (it was in an empties post a while ago), and it smelled lovely so I had to grab the bigger tub.

And because I already have quite a lot of body butters, and lotions to get through I also got my friend the Chocomainia Shower Gel and Body Butter, as like me she is a huge chocaholic.

I hope you like some of the products up there, and are there any Body Shop products that you love.

Botanics All-Bright Refreshing Eye Roll-On

I'm always on the lookout for something that is going to help the bags under my eyes, so I spotted this in Boots and it claims that it is all plant extracts so I thought this might be helpful and good to my under eye area.

After a couple of weeks using this I haven't really noticed a difference to be honest, I will admit it does feel cooling on the skin when it is applied but I read the bumf on the back and some of the ingredients lower the skins intolerance to sun so it actually requested that you wear sunscreen while using the product and after you stop using it. That warning to me is a massive con, and one that puts me off using it, I already have enough steps to my routine on a morning having to add another one to it, or make sure that my foundation has an SPF in it already.

I wouldn't repurchase this again as I never really saw a difference and the warning on the product just changed my mind about this completely.

L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara Mega Volume - Black

This is L'Oreal's new mascara release the Miss Manga Mascara, you probably will have seen the adverts all over the TV (I don't think you could have missed them even if you tried). As the consumer of beauty products that I am I had to see what the mascara was about.

From the blogging sphere opinion has been divided regarding this mascara and I have to admit I like it and I don't (I know, I'm on the fence, major cop out). My reasons are I like the brush with its pointed shape it does help to get into the hard to reach places on your eyelashes, I also love the packaging, and the flexible brush.

As you know my pet peeve is when a brush is so full of product you can't see the brush anymore, and this brush does it which can then make your lashes look clumpy.

It retails for around £8.99 which isn't a bad price especially for L'Oreal, I would repurchase again but probably when it is on offer or in a 3 for 2.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I spotted this in Superdrug and couldn't believe that we have another brand joining in with Micellar waters. I already love the L'Oreal Purifying Micellar Solution, and wasn't impressed with the B.Pure Micellar Water so when I saw Garnier's edition I had to snap it up.

I am already impressed with the size of the bottle 400mls against L'Oreal and B's 200mls wasn't bad (and then finding out you can buy this in Savers for £2 cheaper - £2.99 instead of £4.99, always a good thing).

I read a post by British Beauty Blogger that the ingredients of both L'Oreal and Garnier are exactly the same (I've seen both labels and yes they are), but to me this just makes it easier for me to decide which one I shall use in future. Garnier of course as I can get 400mls for £2 cheaper than the L'Oreal micellar water.

This did exactly what it said on the tin, it removed my makeup and especially waterproof mascara, and it hasn't broken me out (always a good thing)

Overall I am going to continue to buy Garnier due to the price, size, and availability (I do want to try bioderma but P&P sucks, watch this space in July though).

Collection Fix Me Up Setting Spray

This I bought for my train case when I went to London for a couple of days as its small so wouldn't take up a lot of room.

It's a good setting spray but for the size (18ml) of it and the price (£5.99), that was its downfall, MUA do a setting spray that contains more product (60ml) for a cheaper price (£5.00).

I liked the product don't get me wrong, it had somewhat of a nice smell to it and it did help to keep my make up in place, I don't think I would repurchase just to take away with me though and will just end up taking the 60ml bottles with me.

TopShop Illuminating Face Powder

I saw this in a post by Beauty Junkie in London a couple of months back and thought this might be a good product to try out.

I did balk at the £14.99 price but I thought it's after Christmas I can splurge on myself a tiny bit (I bought it in January, so I am unsure if it is still available).

The packaging is lovely, you get a nice compact, with a round sponge (I use a stippling/ powder brush all the time so the sponges are irrelevant to me).

The powder is finely milled and does give a nice glow to the skin without adding too much glitter to the face (which is always a plus).

I will forewarn you that this is somewhat scented, it's not a bad smell, it's quite floral.

Overall a good product, and one I am happy to keep using (hopefully when I hit pan, they will still be selling it)

Smoke and Ashes - China Glaze

November saw the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, I loved the books and I loved the first movie so to celebrate the release of Catching Fire I bought a bottle of Smoke and Ashes from China Glaze's Hunger Games Collection.

This is a black colour with a subtle green shimmer running through the polish, the polish went onto the nail really easily and was highly pigmented, only one coat and it was opaque, I used 2 coats in the above picture.

Overall a great nail polish, and one that will be coming out again for the next two Hunger Games movies.

Black Cherry - Mavala

This is a lovely dark red colour, and the picture above just doesn't really do it justice.

The polish goes on great onto the nail, very highly pigmented with one coat, in the picture I am wearing 2 coats.

Mavala create some great polishes and this is one of their best (for me it was). the brush is a classic brush but I managed to paint my nails without too many mistakes on the dreaded right hand.

Overall a great nail polish and one of my favourites.

Collection Kohl Eyeliner Precision Colour - Black

This I picked up as I love a good black eyeliner, they always make my eyes pop I think, so I bought this eyeliner from Boots.

I mainly use eyeliner in the waterline and just under the eye, so I am always on the lookout for an eyeliner that is going to give a nice bold line to my eyes.

This is a nice eyeliner, it works well with the water line. It stays on fine for a 3 to 4 hours tops before you have to then reapply.

This is good to use on a night out (by the time it starts to disappear you won't be bothered to notice), but if your wanting to wear it during the day, make sure you take it with you.

Raring Reds!!

Item marked with * was free gift with purchase.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone, and to celebrate the love here are my top 5 picks for your nails today:

Rouge Escarpin - Bourjois*
This is a lovely red colour, just a hint lighter than Essie's Fishnet Stockings, a lovely colour for Valentine's Day.

Fishnet Stockings - Essie
This is the colour that I am going to wear for Valentine's Day, it's such a lovely classic red

Crush - Barry M
I love my matte nail polish's so this had to make it in the top 5. It's such a lovely dark red, and when it goes matte it just looks so timeless, and a dark berry red.

Burgundy - Natural Collection
I wore this during the festive season but it was such a lovely red with a shimmer that I just thought it would look brilliant on Valentine's Day.

Sardonyx - Models Own
With nail polish and choosing favourites you need a glitter one and this is my pick. It goes onto the nail like a really thick gel and once it dries it has a somewhat gritty texture to it (this could easily be changed by adding a top coat to it), overall my favourite red glitter polish.

Thursday, 13 February 2014

Burgundy - Natural Collection

This is a lovely red shimmer, this is a great colour for the festive season or even for Valentine's Day.

I was quite surprised with how lovely this polish is, it has a nice shimmer running through it, so when it hits the light it has a hint of yellow in the mix.

The 1st coat was quite streaky, but once I put the 2nd coat on it became opaque.

The brush is a classic one, and the polish went on to the nail quite easily without too many mistakes on the dreaded right hand.

Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil

I had finished my Body Shop Oil and was looking for a cheaper alternative, when I noticed this.

The French are known to be fabulous when it comes to skincare, and the packaging looked very good, the spray pump sounded like it would be an easier and quicker way of getting the product on.

First off this smells gorgeous, everytime I use it my partner always comments that I smell nice. The spray pump is good and sprays a nice amount of product onto the skin, but as soon as I rub it in and go to use the spray pump again I can't get a grip as my hands are covered in oil.

I'm probably being awkward, and using it completely differntley to everyone else (putting it on then rubbing in then trying to use the spray again. What can I say I'm awkward).

I do like this and it is a cheaper alternative to The Body Shop's oil, but I would only buy this when it was on offer

Parisian Rooftops - L'Oreal

This is a lovely brown colour, a great colour for autumn when it seems everything is all beige and grey.

This was really easy to apply onto the nails due to the flat brush, which carried the right amount of polish so it wasn't completely overloaded.

The 1st coat was streaky but this evened out on the 2nd coat when the polish went opaque.

This has to be one of my favourites in my collection and one I will be using again this autumn.

Welcome to the 2nd edition of Make-Up Monday

As you can see there is another bumper week of products:

  • SEVENTEEN On The Spot Foundation - Porcelain - I've used this previously and it wasn't too bad, I don't think there is much in there so it's more of using it up.

  • Natural Collection Pressed Powder - Cool - Have used this before and it is good, testing it out some more.
  • L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara - Black
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR - Eternal Gold
  • MUA Colourblast Eyeshadow Tint - A Girl Like Me
  • MaxFactor Wild Mega Volume Mascara - Black
  • Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm - Sultry - Have been wanting these for ages.

  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow - Bad Girl Bronze
  • Rimmel Lipstick Lock

Some of these products are old favourites, and new testers.

Maybelline Baby Lips

I love lip balm, I have hundreds of them, but these are the ones that I have been wanting for ages (ever since the author Lindsey Kelk put them on her website). I scoured the net for their release date and when they were finally released I was there buying them.

I only have 5 at the moment but that may all change.

Mint Fresh
A lovely minty fresh smell and feels lovely on the lips

Cherry Me
This is one of their tinted lip balms, this smells of cherries and gives a hint of red on the lips.

Peach Kiss
This is my favourite from the baby lips range, it is the other from the tinted range, it smells of peaches and also gives a subtle hint on the lips with a glitter.

Hydrate
This gives extra hydration to the lips (this one can be found in my bag at the moment)

Intense Care +
This is another favourite from the range, I use this once I have used a lip scrub on my lips just to back some of the moisture I've lost from scrubbing.

A great range, and ones that I use all the time

MaxFactor Wild Mega Mascara - Black

I've never really used a lot of MaxFactor products, they may be drugstore but they still have a cringeworthy price tag (well to me they do).

I saw this and thought I would give this a try,

The packaging is certainly eyecatching, there is no chance of you missing it on the shelf.

The wand carries quite a bulky brush so there is more chance of your lashes becoming clumpy (so always keep a lash comb/ brush close by)

I didn't really notice if it volumised my lashes that much, but once I used the lash comb they did separate quite well.

Overall not a bad mascara but too much product goes onto the brush which annoys me to no end, I probably won't repurchase this again in the future.

Pretty Quik Nail Drying Spray

I was perusing the aisles of Superdrug when I spotted this little beauty peeking out from on the shelf. Well I'm always looking for something that will dry my nails ASAP.

This retailed at £2.79, which I thought was quite reasonable.

Once I painted my nails I sprayed this onto them, and don't get me wrong it dries them, but like the Sally Hansen Insta-Dry it only dries the top layer so your nails are still soft.

I will use this up but not sure if I would buy again.

Superdrug Strawberry & Raspberry Shower Gel

You can't beat a good shower gel, especially one that smells absolutely fantastic, and this ladies and gentleman is a good shower gel.

I previously mentioned this in my January 2014 Favourites post here.

I love a shower gel (I have heard it's a female thing to buy a bottle of shower gel when you have a load in your bathroom), and this is one of the hundreds that I have in my bathroom.

This is one that you will always find in my bathroom, because it just smells so beautiful, it also contains added skin conditioners and it's soap free.

Once this gets a good lather going it really releases the scent of Strawberries and Raspberries, and I love the smell of raspberries.

Acid House - Rimmel

I wore this during December for Christmas, and it was such a lovely dark green colour for the festive season.

The polish went on to the nail really well and wasn't too drippy when applying.

This comes with the flatter brush so that it fits to the nail bed (this can sometimes be a problem as the brush picks up too much product) this polish wasn't too bad with excess product on having excess product.

The nail polish contains a slight shimmer running through it, and looks fantastic when applied. It is also quite pigmented and went opaque on 1 coat (I am wearing 2 coats in the pictures).

NYX Shimmer Roll-On Eyeshadow

NYX cosmetics are all over the place at the moment, and I saw these eyeshadows and thought, these need a test.

So welcome to the world of the Shimmer Roll-On Eyeshadow, if you are wanting a bit of sparkle with your eyeshadow this is the place to come to.

These shimmer roll-on's come in 16 colours, and I have 3 to show you here.

The 3 that I have are:

  • Purple
  • Platinum
  • Walnut

Lets get on with the show:

Purple
This is a lovely bright purple colour, good for blending to make some great smokey eye looks.

Platinum
This is a white colour (which I actually used for my work Christmas party over the top of another shade), the shadow is good for blending with other colours.

Walnut
This is a lovely light brown colour, and good for when you just want a subtle hint of colour with some shimmer.

All these colours are good for a night out (the glitter will reflect off of the lights), I have to say my favourite is Platinum, as you can use it over any eyeshadow to give them a little bit of extra sparkle.

Make-Up Monday (3rd Feb 2014 - 9th Feb 2014)

I was sorting out the make-up that I was going to wear for last week when I had a 'Eureka' moment, and thought this might be a good idea for a series on the blog. I have a bit of makeup so I like to change my make-up bag out every week and get everything in rotation so that nothing is wasted (I know I'm not the only one that does this, hands up please).

So every Monday, I am going to post the make-up that I am going to be wearing for that week. So here is week 1:

  • Gosh Velvet Touch Foundation Primer - Clear
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - 51 Light Vanilla
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - Fair
  • SEVENTEEN Miracle Matte Pressed Powder - Ivory Porcelain
  • Beauty UK Eye Prime FX Eyeshadow Primer
  • Natural Collection LashCare Mascara - Clear - This is a staple in my bag so will always show up in the posts.
  • Beauty UK Eye Shadow Palette - No 7 Naked
  • N.Y.C. Showtime Mascara - Black
  • Collection No Clumps Mascara - Ultra Black
  • Maybelline The Mega Plush Volum' Express - Very Black
  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner - Nude
  • Revlon Butter Balm - Invite Only
  • Collection Fix Me Up Setting Spray

As you can see I do wear a lot of makeup on a weekly basis (I have to mainly plan for what I might wear on a weekend, especially if I am going out somewhere.

I hope you like this series of posts, and I am going to trial it for the month of February, if you readers like this after the four posts then I will carry on and make it a permanent thing.

Are there any products that you've tried there and loved (or even hated), feel free to comment.

January Empties 2014

Welcome to the first empties post of January 2014.

As you can see I have used quite a lot of products up, some I liked and some I didn't. So lets get on with the show.

1. No7 Make Up Brush Cleanser
I love this brush cleaner, the price is really reasonable (£8) and it works really well on spot cleaning my brushes. I will definitely be repurchasing this.

2. Superdrug Oval Pads x50
These are good but not to use on my face as they are just a bit too rough, so I use them to clean my brushes with the No7 brush cleaner.

3. Bodycare Square Cotton Wool Pads x50
I loves these cotton wool pads as they are so soft, so when I near a bodycare store I stock up on these little beauties.

4. SEVENTEEN Stay Time Long Wear Primer
I wasn't that impressed by this primer, it became so sticky, and it just smelled so clinical, I won't be repurchasing this again.

5. Simple Face Wipes x7
I bought these for a trip to London, and had a few left so I finished them off, they were quite a good pack of wipes (I'm currently using the larger pack at the moment), they didn't break me out and weren't too bad on the skin. They removed my make up quite well as well as my eye makeup.

6. The Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Body Polish
This was a christmas present from 2012 and I finally managed to get around to using it, and it was a really good body scrub, made the shower smell of ginger, and made my skin so smooth.

7. MUA Pro Base Fixing Mist
I did like this setting spray, and I would repurchase this again as you get quite a lot of product in for £5. I did keep my make up on for quite a while.

8. Garnier Moisture Match Shine Be Gone Moisturiser
You know how much I love this moisturiser (I am currently on my 2nd tube), and it works so well on my face (I even had my mother buying a tube to help her dry skin). I will obviously repurchase this again.

9. SEVENTEEN Doll'd Up Mascara - Black
This was a good mascara, and I did love it, and it worked well, not sure if I would repurchase again though as I already have quite a lot to get through.

10. Superdrug Round Cotton Wool Pads x50
I bought the travel size for my trip to London as I didn't want to take a massive pack or take so many and run out. These weren't too bad on my face, and I would repurchase again (I bought a triple pack for £3 recently from Superdrug, Good Times!!)

11. Sure Clear Pure Crystal Deodorant
I am fickle when it comes to deodorants and doing what they say on the tin, and to me this one did fail to stand up to expectations. I don't think I would repurchase this again as I have a load of deodorants that need using up.

12. L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution.
I love the L'Oreal micellar water, it works so well on removing my make up, and I will definitely be repurchasing (I have another bottle in the bathroom ready and waiting for me to finish with the Garnier bottle)

So that is my empties for January 2014,

January Favourites

* Denotes gift

Welcome to January Favourites, and it's already the end of January and the start of February (where did January go so fast?).

As you can see from the basket I have a wide selection of favourites this month.

1. Boots Expert Build Up Removal Shampoo
This is a fantastic shampoo for my hair, I use it once a week and it completely removes all the excess oil from my hair.

2. Expert Face Brush - Real Techniques
Where has this brush been all my life, it is fantastic (I bought another one as I loved it that much), I may have to add another one to my collection.

3. Kleenex Shine Absorbing Sheets
These I bought on a whim and thank god I did, these are fantastic to use during the day to take any excess oil off of my face to stop my make up slipping.

4. L'Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash - 306 Bonnie
This is fantastic, when I put this onto my lips it felt just like putting water onto them, and then the texture of the lip gloss changed and it became much thicker (I will have to add some more to my collection).

5. Beauty UK Eyeshadow Palette - No.7 Naked
I'm known for my love of neutral colours especially during the day while I am at work (during the weekend neutrals are gone), this palette had such a good range of shades that I could use during the week while I was at work that I could wear a different colour every day.

6. Espresso - Barry M Matte Nail Paint
This is a great nail polish, went on really easy and I do love a matte nail colour, even though this was black it still looked good on the nail, and looked quite classy as it was a matte polish.

7. I Love...Raspberry & Blackberry Super Soft Hand Lotion*
I actually received this as a stocking filler as I love the smell of raspberries, and this hand lotion is lovely, as soon as it goes onto my hands you can smell the raspberries, and it doesn't make my hands to greasy but keeps them really moisturised.

8. Superdrug Strawberry & Raspberry Shower Gel*
As I said I am a sucker for anything smelling of raspberries and this one is another fantastic one (I originally got a travel size for Christmas and just had to get the normal size). I will admit it has such a weird consistency, like a jelly almost but it makes the shower smell of raspberries (Pure heaven for me).

9. I Love...Raspberry & Blackberry Refreshing Body Spritzer*
Another stocking filler I received, but I will repurchase this again. I like a body spray as I just spritz it all over to give off a nice smell.

I hoped you like my favourites of January and tune in tomorrow to see what I managed to use up as well.

Thanks for tuning in

Gemma
